Saskatchewan Finance Minister Meets with CTF Board of Directors

Author: David Maclean 2004/04/05
REGINA: Saskatchewan Finance Minister Harry Van Mulligen apologized to the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) Board of Directors for not agreeing to hear from the organization in the lead up to Saskatchewan's most recent budget.

The apology was stated as the Minister shared his thoughts on the most recent provincial budget with the CTF Board in Regina on Saturday, April 3rd. Minister Van Mulligen was the first Saskatchewan Cabinet Minister to meet with the CTF Board of Directors.

The Minister also accepted more than 7,800 signatures calling on his government to balance the budget without raising taxes. The Minister and the Premier of Saskatchewan had previously refused to accept the petitions, saying the CTF has neither a Board of Directors nor real supporters.

The CTF also presented a full CTF supporter list for the Minister's perusal. The meeting garnered television and radio coverage.

The Minister also stated that in fact tax cuts are good for the economy. The
CTF hopes the Minister will heed his own advice.
